Olivier Roy is a French political scientist, professor at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, and specialist of Islam. He’s published on GEG’s online review (‘Le Grand Continent’) an in-depth article about Europe and Christianity.
Is Europe Christian ? Olivier Roy develops the nature, history, and outcomes of the tensions between religion’s place in Europe and its observed tendency toward secularism. Ultimately, Roy concludes that « The problem of Europe nowadays is to promote not the expulsion of religion to the private sphere, but rather its re-socialisation and re-culturation. »
His article will the starting point for our weekly discussion.
