If populism is not quite an ideology, strategy, discourse or political logic, then what kind of phenomenon is it ? In its last book (Le style populiste, Éditions Amsterdam, 2019) the Groupe d’Études Géopolitiques argues that the best way to understand contemporary populism is as a political style that is used by a wide range of actors across the world today. This approach stresses the performative aspects of populism, contextualising populism’s position in the heavily mediatised and ‘stylised’ milieu of contemporary politics.
