Avant sa carri\u00e8re \u00e0 la BRI, il a travaill\u00e9 comme \u00e9conomiste de march\u00e9 pour l'Asie dans diff\u00e9rentes banques d'investissement, notamment Bankers Trust, Merrill Lynch et Citigroup, et il a \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9 de cours d'\u00e9conomie \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 nationale australienne et \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 de P\u00e9kin. Il a obtenu un doctorat en \u00e9conomie \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 de Pittsburgh et une licence en \u00e9conomie \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 de P\u00e9kin.
