Enseignant-chercheur de 1984 \u00e0 2004, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 assistant-agr\u00e9g\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Orl\u00e9ans, ma\u00eetre de conf\u00e9rences \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Paris-Sud puis professeur \u00e0 l'Ecole normale sup\u00e9rieure de Cachan en 1994. De 2001 \u00e0 2003, Antoine Petit est directeur adjoint \u00e0 la Direction de la Recherche du minist\u00e8re, en charge des Math\u00e9matiques et des Stic. En 2004 il est d\u00e9tach\u00e9 au CNRS, d\u2019abord comme directeur scientifique du d\u00e9partement Sciences et technologies de l\u2019information et de la communication puis comme directeur interr\u00e9gional Sud-Ouest. En 2006, il rejoint Inria pour diriger le centre de recherche Paris-Rocquencourt, avant d\u2019\u00eatre nomm\u00e9 directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral adjoint.
