L&rsquo;intensit\u00e9 p\u00e9troli\u00e8re, qui mesure le volume de p\u00e9trole consomm\u00e9 par unit\u00e9 de produit int\u00e9rieur brut (PIB), a chut\u00e9 de pr\u00e8s de 60&#160;% entre 1972 \u2014 l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant le premier choc p\u00e9trolier \u2014 et 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Banque mondiale estime qu\u2019il faut d\u00e9sormais 0,049 tonne d\u2019\u00e9quivalent p\u00e9trole pour produire 1 000 dollars de PIB, contre 0,119 il y a un demi-si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aux \u00c9tats-Unis, le d\u00e9clin a \u00e9t\u00e9 encore plus significatif&#160;: tandis que la taille du PIB a tripl\u00e9 depuis les ann\u00e9es 1970, la consommation de p\u00e9trole n\u2019a pratiquement pas augment\u00e9 (+0,8&#160;% entre 1978 et 2024).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comme l\u2019explique l\u2019\u00e9conomiste am\u00e9ricain Paul Krugman&#160;: \u00ab&#160;La r\u00e9duction de l&rsquo;intensit\u00e9 p\u00e9troli\u00e8re du PIB am\u00e9ricain signifie que m\u00eame si la guerre actuelle entra\u00eene une hausse importante et durable des prix du p\u00e9trole, les dommages \u00e9conomiques seront moins importants qu&rsquo;ils ne l&rsquo;auraient \u00e9t\u00e9 il y a quelques d\u00e9cennies&#160;\u00bb&nbsp;<span class='whitespace-nowrap'><span id='easy-footnote-1-321258' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a raisons permettent d\u2019expliquer cette d\u00e9corr\u00e9lation entre la consommation de p\u00e9trole et la production de richesse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tout d\u2019abord, l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique dans le domaine des transports (routier, maritime, a\u00e9rien\u2026) s\u2019est consid\u00e9rablement am\u00e9lior\u00e9e, notamment gr\u00e2ce aux normes relatives au rendement \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique des v\u00e9hicules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Malgr\u00e9 une hausse consid\u00e9rable de la production mondiale d&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, qui a tripl\u00e9 entre 1985 et 2024, le p\u00e9trole n&rsquo;a contribu\u00e9 qu&rsquo;\u00e0 la production de moins de 900 TWh dans le monde en 2024, contre 2 000 TWh en 1990.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Le d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019autres sources de production d\u2019\u00e9nergie, notamment renouvelables, comme le solaire et l\u2019\u00e9olien, implique quant \u00e0 elle une diminution de la d\u00e9pendance aux combustibles fossiles \u2014 ce qui se traduit par un ralentissement de la croissance de la demande de p\u00e9trole&nbsp;<span class='whitespace-nowrap'><span id='easy-footnote-2-321258' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a baril aurait toutefois un impact important sur l&rsquo;\u00e9conomie mondiale, en raison notamment de la pression inflationniste qui conduirait \u00e0 un resserrement mon\u00e9taire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00c0 long terme, une fermeture prolong\u00e9e du d\u00e9troit d\u2019Ormuz pourrait durablement affecter la production mondiale de
