Devenu suffisamment puissant pour \u00eatre nomm\u00e9 \u00ab&#160;cyclone&#160;\u00bb le 6 f\u00e9vrier, il a eu une dur\u00e9e de vie de plus d\u2019un mois, ce qui en fait le plus long cyclone jamais recens\u00e9. Form\u00e9 au large de l\u2019Australie, il a parcouru l\u2019int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 de l\u2019Oc\u00e9an Indien avant de traverser Madagascar et d\u2019arriver dans le Canal du Mozambique dont les eaux chaudes ont probablement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 sa long\u00e9vit\u00e9, voire \u00e0 son renforcement&nbsp;<span class='whitespace-nowrap'><span id='easy-footnote-1-179625' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/legrandcontinent.eu\/fr\/2023\/03\/14\/le-mozambique-doublement-frappe-par-le-cyclone-freddy\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-179625' title='Joseph Hanlon, &lt;em&gt;Mozambique 619 &amp;#8211; Cyclone Freddy to hit again &amp;amp; harder, IDP return to \u00ab&amp;#160;Totaland&amp;rsquo;&lt;\/em&gt;, Mozambique News Reports and Clippings, 09\/03\/2023'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Freddy a frapp\u00e9 deux fois le Mozambique, la premi\u00e8re le 24 f\u00e9vrier \u00e0 Vilankulos (\u00e0 un peu plus de 300 kilom\u00e8tres au sud de Beira). Environ 180 hectares de cultures auraient alors \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9truits et un peu plus de 2&nbsp;500 familles auraient subi des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts mat\u00e9riels, mais les infrastructures touristiques n\u2019auraient \u00e9t\u00e9 que peu affect\u00e9es (la province d\u2019Inhambane, o\u00f9 se situe Vilankulos, est l\u2019une des plus touristiques du pays). Les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts sont rest\u00e9s limit\u00e9s en comparaison \u00e0 la saison cyclonique de 2019, ce qui pourrait s\u2019expliquer par une meilleure pr\u00e9vention de la population&nbsp;<span class='whitespace-nowrap'><span id='easy-footnote-2-179625' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/legrandcontinent.eu\/fr\/2023\/03\/14\/le-mozambique-doublement-frappe-par-le-cyclone-freddy\/#easy-footnote-bottom-2-179625' title='Carta de Mo\u00e7ambique,&amp;nbsp;&lt;em&gt;Ciclone Freddy deixa perto de 60 fam\u00edlias sem casas em Vilanculos&lt;\/em&gt;, 27\/02\/2023'><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Le cyclone a ensuite continu\u00e9 sa route jusqu\u2019au Zimbabwe avant de revenir au Mozambique et dans le canal \u00e9ponyme. Fait exceptionnel, ce retour en mer a renforc\u00e9 Freddy, qui est retourn\u00e9 frapper le pays dans la province de Zamb\u00e9zie, juste au nord de Beira. Ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne du cyclone reprenant des forces en mer pour toucher terre une seconde fois, plus forte que la premi\u00e8re, est rare, mais pas exceptionnel&#160;: cela avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 le cas pour Idai avec des cons\u00e9quences d\u00e9vastatrices pour la ville de Beira.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Freddy est arriv\u00e9 en Zamb\u00e9zie par la capitale provinciale Quelimane le 11 mars et a continu\u00e9 sa route jusqu\u2019au Malawi o\u00f9 il a frapp\u00e9 Blantyre, capitale \u00e9conomique du pays. Il a enfin perdu en intensit\u00e9 pour se transformer en temp\u00eate tropicale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La ville de Quelimane s\u2019est retrouv\u00e9e sans \u00e9lectricit\u00e9, Internet et eau courante apr\u00e8s son passage&nbsp;&#160;; si, d\u00e8s lundi les op\u00e9rateurs t\u00e9l\u00e9phoniques avaient r\u00e9tabli la connexion&nbsp;<span class='whitespace-nowrap'><span id='easy-footnote-3-179625' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/legrandcontinent.eu\/fr\/2023\/03\/14\/le-mozambique-doublement-frappe-par-le-cyclone-freddy\/#easy-footnote-bottom-3-179625' title='Zitamara News, &lt;em&gt;Cyclone Freddy brings destruction and flooding to Mozambique again&lt;\/em&gt;, 13\/03\/2023'><sup>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/span>, beaucoup de personnes restent sans eau ni \u00e9lectricit\u00e9. Dans les zones rurales la situation est certainement beaucoup plus pr\u00e9caire mais difficile \u00e0 quantifier. L\u2019augmentation du nombre des cyclones frappant le Mozambique et leur intensification ne pourra que fragiliser ce pays, parmi les moins d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La r\u00e9action du gouvernement central du Mozambique n\u2019a pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9voil\u00e9e. Si les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts dans la r\u00e9gion de Vilankulos sont limit\u00e9s, la situation semble \u00eatre plus grave en Zamb\u00e9zie, qui est une des provinces les plus pauvres du pays et un fief de l\u2019opposition. Culturellement, l\u2019administration mozambicaine reste m\u00e9fiante envers toute ing\u00e9rence \u00e9trang\u00e8re, ce qui avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 retard\u00e9 sa demande d\u2019aide humanitaire en 2019. This unusually long-lived cyclone struck the east coast of Madagascar on 21 February. It then crossed the Mozambique Channel and made landfall in Mozambique\u2019s Inhambane province near Vilankulo, where it stalled and dropped a huge amount of rain before doubling back towards the west coast of Madagascar again. This satellite image, taken on 8 March shows the weakening storm was following a northwesterly track toward a likely second landfall in Mozambique\u2014this time in the Zambezia province. An infusion of dry air and the storm\u2019s position over relatively cool waters meant Freddy was weakening and the eye had broken down when the image was acquired. However, forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center warned that Freddy will likely still hit Mozambique with sustained winds of 139 kilometers (86 miles) per hour, making it the equivalent of a category 1 hurricane. Over the course of Freddy\u2019s 32-day journey, the World Meteorological Organization says the storm likely became the longest-lasting tropical cyclone on record. The previous record holder, Hurricane John, persisted for 31 days in the Central Pacific in 1994. Meteorologists tracking Freddy\u2019s accumulated cyclone energy (ACE)\u2014a metric that incorporates both intensity and duration\u2014say the storm had an ACE of 72 as of March 7, 2023. That put it in second place for the most accumulated cyclone energy generated by a single storm since 1980, according to Colorado State University atmospheric scientist Philip Klotzbach. developing off the coast of North Australia in early February (2023), Tropical Cyclone Freddy has travelled across the Indian Ocean, bringing powerful winds and downpours to anything in its long and wandering path. This unusually long-lived cyclone struck the east coast of Madagascar on 21 February. It then crossed the Mozambique Channel and made landfall in Mozambique\u2019s Inhambane province near Vilankulo, where it stalled and dropped a huge amount of rain before doubling back towards the west coast of Madagascar again. This satellite image, taken on 8 March shows the weakening storm was following a northwesterly track toward a likely second landfall in Mozambique\u2014this time in the Zambezia province. An infusion of dry air and the storm\u2019s position over relatively cool waters meant Freddy was weakening and the eye had broken down when the image was acquired. However, forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center warned that Freddy will likely still hit Mozambique with sustained winds of 139 kilometers (86 miles) per hour, making it the equivalent of a category 1 hurricane. Over the course of Freddy\u2019s 32-day journey, the World Meteorological Organization says the storm likely became the longest-lasting tropical cyclone on record. The previous record holder, Hurricane John, persisted for 31 days in the Central Pacific in 1994. Meteorologists tracking Freddy\u2019s accumulated cyclone energy (ACE)\u2014a metric that incorporates both intensity and duration\u2014say the storm had an ACE of 72 as of March 7, 2023. That put it in second place for the most accumulated cyclone energy generated by a single storm since 1980, according to Colorado State University atmospheric scientist Philip Klotzbach.
