\u00ab The people’s anger is a reaction to diminishing returns in the paradigm in place. Today the fragile rationality of the proponents of the status quo and an impetus of heterodox views are fighting : they represent an opportunity for renewal while posing a colossal risk […] Because if populism is rising, it is not because it is right or because its adversaries are wrong – it is simply that the established paradigm has entered a phase of diminishing returns. The economy, politics, medicine are still functioning, but every unity of additional expenditure does not generate anymore the same social effect : the system is capped. Yet, the price it requires to continue to function is rising inexorably. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 12th of February, the Tuesdays of the Great Continent invites you to debate on populism and the legitimacy crisis of the elites. The debate will be led by Federico d’Onofrio, a fellow in LSE’s Economic History department, and a close relative of Raffaele Alberto Ventura, the author of the article. We thus strongly encourage you to read this great piece beforehand<\/a> (in English, see French version below). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The principle is simple : a one-hour open discussion with teachers, students, and fellows on European affairs. These sessions aim to happen weekly and to create a reflection group that thrives in debating and sharing opinions away from the classrooms.
