Before being appointed director, he served as UN Women\u00b4s deputy regional director for the Arab States. Mohammad has extensive experience in the region and in gender and development issues. Prior to joining UN Women, Mohammad was the Deputy Country Director of UNDP in Yemen, where he supported the country in the formulation of its Gender Strategy and the Gender Responsive Budgeting process. He has worked in Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Cambodia, dealing with issues from human trafficking to ethnic cleansing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Europe and the Middle East have become connected like never before. Increased cross Mediterranean partnerships that fuel European support of NGOs throughout the region have created a new relationship that looks to transform the status of women in the region.
