Le Grand Continent a le plaisir d\u2019organiser une rencontre avec Kerry Goettlich, Lecturer in International Politics \u00e0 la City St George\u2019s University de Londres, autour de son dernier livre, From Frontiers to Borders<\/em>, paru aux Cambridge University Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cet ouvrage examine comment la territorialit\u00e9 moderne est apparue et quelles en ont \u00e9t\u00e9 les cons\u00e9quences. Kerry Goettlich soutient que les fronti\u00e8res lin\u00e9aires sont le produit de rencontres coloniales plut\u00f4t qu\u2019une pratique intra-europ\u00e9enne impos\u00e9e artificiellement aux r\u00e9gions colonis\u00e9es. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il reconceptualise la territorialit\u00e9 moderne comme un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne distinct de la souverainet\u00e9 et de l’\u00c9tat, fond\u00e9 sur des pratiques expertes de d\u00e9limitation et de d\u00e9marcation. Son histoire trouve son origine dans la production sociale d’une expertise orient\u00e9e vers ces pratiques. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

S’appuyant sur des sources primaires et secondaires, From Frontiers to Borders<\/em> examine comment cette expertise a \u00e9merg\u00e9 dans les colonies de peuplement en Am\u00e9rique du Nord et en Inde britannique, des cas qui mettent en lumi\u00e8re toute une s\u00e9rie de types diff\u00e9rents de domination et d’influence coloniales. Il explore \u00e9galement certaines des cons\u00e9quences de la mondialisation de la territorialit\u00e9 moderne, exposant les origines coloniales des \u00e9tudes sur les fronti\u00e8res et l’impact des experts en mati\u00e8re de fronti\u00e8res sur la Conf\u00e9rence de paix de Paris de 1919-1920.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
