Su objetivo era colisionar, casi 10 meses despu\u00e9s, con un asteroide llamado Dimorphos, situado a 7 millones de kil\u00f3metros de la Tierra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Este objeto cercano a la Tierra (un asteroide o cometa) no supone una amenaza para nuestro planeta, ya que orbita alrededor de un asteroide mayor, Didymos, situado a 11 millones de kil\u00f3metros de nosotros. Sin embargo, por su tama\u00f1o y caracter\u00edsticas, es un objeto que podr\u00eda suponer una amenaza para la raza humana, si colisionara con la Tierra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"iframe-container wp-block-image wp-block-image-medium  iframe-dw\">\n\t<div>\n\t\t<iframe class=\"absolute w-full h-full pin-t pin-l\" title=\"titolo\" aria-label=\"Interactive line chart\" src=\"\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/rnP8E\/\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La misi\u00f3n Double Asteroid Redirection Test (o DART) pretende hacer frente a esta amenaza en el futuro. Se trata de la continuaci\u00f3n del trabajo iniciado en Estados Unidos a finales de los a\u00f1os 1990 para detectar y seguir los objetos cercanos a la Tierra (asteroides o cometas) que podr\u00edan colisionar contra ella.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>En el pasado, varios de estos asteroides han supuesto una amenaza potencial para nuestro planeta, seg\u00fan la NASA. Para evaluar los riesgos, la agencia estadounidense utiliza la llamada \u00abEscala de Tur\u00edn\u00bb, introducida a finales de los a\u00f1os 1990, que mide el riesgo de colisi\u00f3n con la Tierra en una escala de 0 a 10.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"iframe-container wp-block-image wp-block-image-medium  iframe-dw\">\n\t<div>\n\t\t<iframe class=\"absolute w-full h-full pin-t pin-l\" title=\"titolo\" aria-label=\"Interactive line chart\" src=\"\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/TAC8q\/\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>En 2004, un asteroide -(99942) Apophis- alcanz\u00f3 por primera vez el nivel 4 en la escala de Tur\u00edn, y la NASA estim\u00f3 que hab\u00eda un 1,6% de probabilidades de impacto con la Tierra. En ese momento, la agencia espacial predijo una probable colisi\u00f3n el 13 de abril de 2029. El nivel de peligro se ha rebajado desde entonces, tras los nuevos c\u00e1lculos que descartan la probabilidad de que se produzca tal acontecimiento.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>El tama\u00f1o de la nave enviada por la NASA equivale a un carrito de golf, mientras que el asteroide con el que va a chocar tiene m\u00e1s de 160 metros de di\u00e1metro, el tama\u00f1o de un estadio. Sin embargo, este impacto ser\u00eda suficiente para desviarlo de su trayectoria, salvando a la Tierra y a la humanidad en un escenario real.
