Las elecciones fueron ampliamente boicoteadas, con una participaci\u00f3n de apenas el 39,9%. Por su parte, el islamista Abdellah Hassan Cherif propone reformas sociales, principalmente en los \u00e1mbitos de la educaci\u00f3n y la juventud. En marzo, el Presidente anunci\u00f3 que las elecciones se celebrar\u00edan a principios de septiembre, en lugar de diciembre, con lo que la carrera electoral estaba cerrada.
