En Irlanda del Norte, el Acuerdo del Viernes Santo de 1998 prev\u00e9 la posibilidad de celebrar tal votaci\u00f3n, cuya celebraci\u00f3n queda a discreci\u00f3n del secretario de Estado brit\u00e1nico, si parece \u00abprobable\u00bb que una mayor\u00eda de la poblaci\u00f3n votar\u00eda a favor de abandonar el Reino Unido, lo que allanar\u00eda el camino para una reunificaci\u00f3n con Irlanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una secesi\u00f3n de Irlanda del Norte, Escocia y Gales privar\u00eda a Westminster de una parte significativa de su poblaci\u00f3n y de sus recursos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Estas tres naciones representan el 15,4 % de la poblaci\u00f3n del Reino Unido (10,7 millones de un total de 69,3 millones), el 13,2 % del PIB y casi la mitad de su superficie (el 46,4 %, es decir, unos 113.000 km\u00b2).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El Reino Unido pasar\u00eda del quinto al sexto puesto en el ranking mundial del PIB, quedando as\u00ed por detr\u00e1s de la India, una antigua colonia brit\u00e1nica, seg\u00fan una estimaci\u00f3n de la revista.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No obstante, el pa\u00eds registrar\u00eda un PIB ligeramente superior al de Francia: unos 3.005 billones de euros frente a 2.913 billones, lo que supone una diferencia inferior a 100 mil millones de euros.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"iframe-container wp-block-image wp-block-image-medium  iframe-dw\">\n\t<div>\n\t\t<iframe class=\"absolute w-full h-full pin-t pin-l\" title=\"titolo\" aria-label=\"Interactive line chart\" src=\"\/\/datawrapper.dwcdn.net\/Q1s97\/\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Westminster tambi\u00e9n podr\u00eda perder varias ventajas estrat\u00e9gicas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La base naval de Clyde, en Escocia, alberga la totalidad de los submarinos nucleares brit\u00e1nicos; ninguna otra instalaci\u00f3n del Reino Unido cuenta con un acceso de aguas profundas al Atl\u00e1ntico como este.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Escocia garantiza al pa\u00eds su presencia en el \u00abGIUK\u00bb: un punto de paso clave para la vigilancia del Atl\u00e1ntico Norte y para la mayor parte del acceso a las reservas petrol\u00edferas en alta mar del Mar del Norte.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>La perspectiva de que Escocia, Gales y una Irlanda del Norte reunificada con Irlanda
