Estas se producen principalmente durante tormentas violentas, favorecidas por el cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Este fen\u00f3meno se explica en gran medida por el calentamiento del Atl\u00e1ntico Norte, debido tanto al cambio clim\u00e1tico global como a la disminuci\u00f3n de los aerosoles sulfatados resultantes de la quema de carb\u00f3n en Europa y en Am\u00e9rica del Norte.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antiguamente, estos aerosoles formaban una fina niebla que enfriaba el oc\u00e9ano e imped\u00eda que el monz\u00f3n de \u00c1frica Occidental se extendiera hasta el Sahel, provocando as\u00ed la sequ\u00eda. Su disminuci\u00f3n ha calentado el oc\u00e9ano y ha permitido que el monz\u00f3n recupere su funci\u00f3n de generar lluvias torrenciales en la regi\u00f3n.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Algunos investigadores consideran que los proyectos de ordenaci\u00f3n del suelo, como la Gran Muralla Verde \u2014concebida inicialmente para frenar el avance del S\u00e1hara\u2014 o la construcci\u00f3n de estructuras tradicionales de captaci\u00f3n de agua, tambi\u00e9n contribuyen al ascenso de los acu\u00edferos al favorecer la infiltraci\u00f3n subterr\u00e1nea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La aparici\u00f3n de grupos terroristas como Boko Haram tambi\u00e9n podr\u00eda haber influido, sobre todo al provocar el abandono de determinadas zonas por parte de la poblaci\u00f3n, all\u00ed donde se reten\u00eda el agua de los r\u00edos para el cultivo, especialmente aguas arriba del lago Chad.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El declive de los grandes proyectos de riego, construidos durante los a\u00f1os de sequ\u00eda para impulsar la producci\u00f3n alimentaria, tambi\u00e9n podr\u00eda haber contribuido a la recuperaci\u00f3n de los recursos h\u00eddricos de la regi\u00f3n.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Los monzones del Sahel, que se ven intensificados por el calentamiento global, pueden, sin embargo, provocar inundaciones devastadoras, sobre todo en una regi\u00f3n donde las infraestructuras no est\u00e1n preparadas para hacerles frente.
